BSB Round 3 - Oulton Park 3/4/5th May

Class - Superstock 1000

Hello everyone,
In first qualifying i was 5th quickest with a time of 1min 41.053sec, in second qualifying i was 6th quickest with a time of 1min 40.763sec I started the race from row 2. I got a good start and made my way up to 3rd but my arms pumped up again and in the closing stages Connor Cummins passed me at Lodge corner and i was 4th at the chequered flag. I was disappointed with the result but happy with the ideal fastest lap which is the three best sector times put together.

BSB Round 4 - Brands Hatch GP 10/11th May

Superstock 1000

We had qualified for this race back in April and then i had qualified 10th with a time of 1min 31.431sec. I got moved up two places as there was riders who qualified in front of me for this race but didn’t turn up so i started on the inside of row 2 in 8th position. I settled into a nice rhythm and was following Marshall Neill, i passed him into Paddock Hill once but he passed me straight back into Druids and we both went wide allowing Jimmy Storrar to nip inside but Marshall passed him straight back as well, it took me a litttle bit longer to get by him but when i did i put three consistent laps in to be on the back wheel of Marshall going into the last lap. I made a dive up the inside at Paddock Hill again and stayed tight at Druids this time not allowing a re-pass but when we went into Graham Hill bend Marshall stuck his wheel in and put me down to 4th and this is the order in which we finished. Again disappointed as i should have rode more defensive but happy with no arm pump issues and consistency.

International NW200 13/15/17th May

Supersport 600 & Superstock 1000

On tue night supersport practice i was 5th quickest and in superstock i was 2nd quickest. On thur night supersport practice i was 2nd quickest and in superstock i was 2nd quickest also. I would start both my supersport races and superstock race from the middle of the front row which was pleasing as i was now up with the front runners. In the first supersport race it was close all the way with me leading most of it, i made a slight mistake at York corner on the last lap allowing Plater through and he pulled a gap but i was closing him down until i came across a back marker going into Mathers Cross and i had to shut off and follow him round which let Plater get away for his win. I had to fight of the rest of the riders off on the last lap to take 2nd place which i dedicated to my team mate Martin Finnegan who was sadly killed at the Tandragee road race. The superstock race was much like the supersport race, fast and frantic. I led until three quarters distance then the TAS boys came by, i hung on to them and passed Cameron along the coast on lap 4 and followed Bruce on the last lap. When we got to the coast road on the last lap i was in 3rd place but was determined to make a pass on one of them if not both. I got a slipstream of Bruce that took me by Cameron on the run into Juniper chicane, Bruce left his braking to late and ran wide onto the grass gifting me my first NW200 win. In the second supersport race i dropped down to 4th behind Plater, Hutchison and Lougher before digging deep and pulling myself onto the exhaust pipe of leader Plater on the last lap, i got a slipstream of him going to the Juniper chicane but i choose to go round the outside but Plater being a experienced campaigner just let his brakes off and held me out, i should have known better racing week in week out in BSB that you stick it up the inside but it was a split second decision and i went the wrong way but i’ll learn from it and i’ll not be doing it next year.

BSB Round 4 - Donington Park 24/25/26th May

Superstock 1000

Hello everyone,
I first qualifying i was 3rd quickest with a time of 1min 35.284sec, in second qualifying i was 13th quickest with a time of 1min 59.555sec. The second qualifying was held in wet conditions so the times from irst qualifying determine the grid for the race. Another start from the front row was great to have as i’m pretty decent at launching the bike. I got into the first corner 2nd, after we settled down i was in a battle with Brogan, Neill and Coates. I led for a little while but in lap 7 or 8 it started drizzling rain and i found the track to get a little greasy and i backed of a bit. I wanted to stay on and get more points so let the others tear away. On lap 10 the red flags came out as we all raised our hands crossing the start/finnish line to let them know rain was falling. I finished 4th and grabbed valuable points.

AMA Round 6 - Road America,Wisconsin 6/7/8th June

Superstock & Superbike

I qualified 9th for the superstock race with a time of 2min 18.040sec and qualified 16th for the superbike races with a time of 2min 18.665sec. I was out on Sat for a 16 lap superbike race on board the superstock bike, i was in a battle for 10th position with Peris, Pietri and Jensen. I fell lucky when on the last lap the riders i was dicing with all ran out of fuel and i cruised home to take 10th. In Sun’s 10lap superstock wet race i got a good start and was 3rd for most of the race until a few laps from the end Pietri came by with his traction control banging away and he gapped me to leave me with another 4th place. Shortly after that i had another 16lap superbike race and i choose supersport tyres as there was a mostly dry line. Again i got a good start and i passed Jason di Salvo on the factory Yamaha a few laps in, i also caught Matt Lynn on the Corona Extra Honda and pulled away to finish 9th. I was well chuffed with two top 10 results in superbike class on board a superstock bike and you never know had i had traction control on my bike i might of been on the podium in the superstock race.

BSB Round 5 - Snetterton 13/14/15th June

Superstock 1000

I was 7th quickest in first qualifying with a time of 1min 08.228sec, in second qualifying i was 3rd quickest with a time of 1min 08.023sec. When the qualifying times were combined then i was 6th quickest and would therefore start the race from row 2. I didn’t get the best of starts as i was thinking about the light going green like in america but the red light just goes out in BSB and it’s go. I was about 5th after the first lap and i clawed my way up to the back of Neill who was running 3rd. I passed him about half distance but he passed me back a lap later and then Coates passed me too. I dug deep and passed them both back into turn 1 on consecutive laps and pulled a gap of 1.5sec by the finish flag. I was so relieved to finally get on the box this year after all them 4th’s and i hope it will become a more regular thing. It was a nice reward for the team and my mechanic Derek Huxley who has been working his magic week in week out on the bike.

My next BSB superstock meeting is Oulton Park 18/19/20th July.

Hope to see you all there!

Interview with Maurice Montgomery - Fotobikes

Carricks Alastair Seeley won the opening round of the big money Mondello Masters series last Sunday. Riding the Millsport R1 Yamaha the local rider came 6th at the end of the opening lap to pass race leader Declan Swanton two laps from the end of the ten lapper to win by over seven seconds. “The main reason for going to Mondello was for the masters and now that I have won the opening round I can go to round two with confidence and maybe even win all three as there is a good bonus paid to anyone who can win the lot. The Masters race was a tricky one as the track was wet after a heavy shower just before they called us to the line. I went out with wets front and rear but after the sighting lap I noticed that the sun had came out and the track was drying fast. While they were doing the interviews on the line I made a last minute decision to change to a dry tyre on the rear. When the starting lights went out the rear spun up and I lost a lot of ground to the leaders off the line. My Millsport Yamaha however was going really well and I took it easy on the damp parts and went quick on the dry parts in the early stages and soon made up the time on the front men . With two laps to go I had the leader, Swanton, in my sights, got passed him and by the chequered flag had pulled out seven and a half seconds. My fastest lap was less than half a second slower than my fastest ever around Mondello and that was on a full blown superbike, so I am happy with the bike, the same one I will use at the NW 200”. Commented a happy Alastair. At the same meeting Alastair raced in three superbike races. After qualifying 13th , a disappointing result for the local rider he changed from Dunlop to Pirelli tyres. “I couldn’t get to grips with them. They felt really hard and I couldn’t get them to work so I changed to the Pirelli’s and got on fine with them”. In the first superbike race on Saturday he finished second on a dry track only half a second behind race winner Gary Johnston on the Uel Duncan Fireblade Honda. The second superbike race was on Sunday morning and he again took second this time behind Brian McCormick after passing Jack Kennedy two corners from the finish. “I had the speed in the dry but not enough laps to make up for my disappointing grid position. Still I had the fastest lap in both races”. In his third superbike outing he took sixth. “With the Masters my next race I did not want to take any chances in the slippery conditions”. ______________________________________________
